Overpopulation
The Earth's population is over six billion now. A thousand years ago, the Earth needed to support only 250 to 300 million people. The Earth's population has been growing at a faster and faster rate.
In 1000, there were an estimated 250 to 300 million people on Earth.
In 1500, there were 450 to 500 million.
In 1900, there were 1.5 to 1.6 billion.
In 1950, there were 2.5 billion.
In 2000, there were 6.1 billion.
It's believed the Earth's population could reach 10 billion within the next hundred years. Every day all these people are drawing on the Earth's resources, using more energy, land, water and natural resources (such as trees, fossil fuels, minerals, plants and animals).
